139 Police OICs Transferred

Sri Lanka Police has announced the transfer of 139 Officers-in-Charge (OIC).

The transfers, approved by the National Police Commission and authorized by Acting Inspector General of Police, Senior DIG Priyantha Weerasooriya, will take effect in two phases—on February 13 and 18.

This reshuffle includes 105 Chief Inspectors of Police (CIs) and 34 Inspectors of Police (IPs).

Among these, 53 OICs have been reassigned to general duties, while 50 officers will take on new appointments.

The police have explained that the transfers are not politically motivated but are part of efforts to address longstanding performance issues and gaps in duty rotations.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manathunga stated that some officers had not been reassigned for a considerable period, and performance concerns were a key factor in the decision-making process.
