19 Shooting Incidents Reported in 2025, 68 Suspects Arrested – Police

A total of 19 shooting incidents have been reported in Sri Lanka from January to March 5, with 12 linked to organized crime and seven resulting from personal disputes, raising concerns over public safety.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga stated that investigations are ongoing, leading to the arrest of 68 suspects. Authorities have also seized 13 firearms, including six T-56 rifles, two pistols, and five handguns.

Additionally, law enforcement has taken into custody eight motorcycles, two cars, two three-wheelers, and one van used in the crimes. The police continue their efforts to curb gun violence and criminal activities in the country.
