Police seize record-breaking 1,225 kg of cannabis.

According to the Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, today (19), the police have captured three individuals who were found in possession of approximately 1,225 kilograms of cannabis. This recent seizure is believed to be the largest ever recorded in Sri Lanka.

The cannabis was discovered during a raid conducted by officers from the Embilipitiya Divisional Crimes Unit. The operation targeted a room on the top floor of a two-story building situated in the New Town area of Embilipitiya.

The police confiscated the dried cannabis, which had been prepared for sale, along with two weighing scales. All three suspects were taken into custody.

The arrested individuals will be brought before the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court.
