Protest Against EPF/ETF Robbery Gains Momentum in Front of Fort Railway Station

A protest was organized today in front of the Fort railway station against the alleged robbery of funds from the ETF and EPF, as well as unfair taxation.

Trade unions and workers joined this protest, raising questions directed at the Central Bank Governor and the Government of Sri Lanka. They are demanding explanations as to why the retirement savings in EPF/ETF accounts have been specifically targeted and subjected to what they perceive as an attempt to restructure domestic debt.

Simultaneously, the Fort Magistrate Court has issued an order regarding the planned protest for this afternoon. The order aims to restrict several protestors from accessing key government offices, including the President’s Office, the Ministry of Finance, and the Central Bank, from 9 am to 6 pm today.

The court’s order pertains to 24 individuals listed as respondents, among them Duminda Nagamuwa, Mujibar Rahman, Charita Premachandra, Charita Herath, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Joseph Stalin, and some other participants who joined the protest alongside them.
