Governors Consult Attorney General on Legality of Appointing Representatives

Governors have informed that the Attorney General’s advice was sought regarding the appointment of former local government representatives to supervise development activities of local government institutions.

The Election Commission stated that the Governors of the Central and Western Provinces informed the Commission in writing that actions regarding the appointments will be based on the Attorney General’s advice.

The Election Commission has repeatedly pointed out that these appointments are illegal, as the local government election law remains in effect despite the postponement of local government elections.

As a result, the Governors of the Southern and Eastern Provinces have canceled the relevant appointments.
