Wijeyadasa & Sarath Fonseka Announce Presidential Bids

Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe officially announced today that he will be contesting the upcoming Presidential Election. The declaration was made during a special press conference held this morning (25).

In a separate announcement, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka also declared his candidacy for the upcoming Presidential Election. The parliamentarian took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to share the news, stating that he had been encouraged by numerous requests from the public to run for the presidency.

“A lot of people have asked me to contest for the presidential election and I am looking forward to accepting the call of the people of Sri Lanka,” Fonseka said.

Shortly after, he posted another update formally announcing his intention to run in the 2024 Presidential Election, stating, “I wish to announce my Presidential Candidacy to the people of Sri Lanka.”
