CID Launches Probe into Railway E-Ticket Scam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate today that an investigation has been launched into a railway e-ticket scam reported in Ella, Kandy, Colombo, and the Makumbura MMC.

The CID stated that the scam involved individuals purchasing railway e-tickets immediately after their release and reselling them at higher prices during the online seat reservation process.

The e-ticketing system is jointly operated by the Sri Lanka Railway Department and Sri Lanka Mobitel.

The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by the Railway Department with the Cyber Crimes Investigation Division of the CID.

The investigating officers further informed the court that they would continue their inquiries and submit a progress report in the near future.
