Sri Lankan Business Tycoon Harry Jayawardena Passes Away at 82
Deshamanya Harry Jayawardena, a towering figure in Sri Lanka’s corporate sector, has died at the age of 82.
Jayawardena, the chairman of Melstacorp PLC, was also the Honorary Consul General for Denmark in Sri Lanka. Recognised as one of the country’s wealthiest individuals, he was featured on Forbes’ list of Sri Lanka’s richest.
He previously led the Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka and Aitken Spence, making history as the chairman of the first Sri Lankan companies to be recognised on Forbes’ list of best-managed firms outside the United States.
