Bill to Repeal Online Safety Act Gazetted

A bill to repeal the Online Safety Act, No. 9 of 2024, has been officially gazetted.

According to the gazette notification, once this new bill is passed in Parliament, the Online Safety Act will be repealed. It also states that any regulations made under the current Act will be cancelled.

The gazette further notes that if there is any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil versions of the Act, the Sinhala text will take precedence.

This repeal bill was submitted by opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake.
