President Inaugurates “Siri Dalada Vandana”

The special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic, known as the “Siri Dalada Wandanawa,” began today (April 18) at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, after a period of 16 years.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake participated in the inauguration ceremony and placed the first floral tribute to the Sacred Tooth Relic, officially commencing the event. At the President’s request, the exposition is being held under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters and the direction of the Diyawadana Nilame.

The “Siri Dalada Wandanawa” will continue for 10 days, from April 18 to 27. Devotees will be able to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic until 5:00 p.m. today. From April 19 onwards, veneration will be open daily from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m.

Thousands of devotees from across the country gathered in Kandy for the event. The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, along with other Ministers, foreign Ambassadors and High Commissioners, public officials, members of the security forces, and local and international devotees.
