Academic Qualifications Not a Matter for the Public – Asoka Ranwala

Asoka Sapumal Ranwala says there is no mechanism to publicly display certificates or documents related to his doctorate.

In an interview with BBC News Sinhala, Mr. Ranwala stated that there is no tradition of presenting such certificates in Parliament.

He noted that requesting academic certificates is not a significant matter and emphasized that Members of Parliament do not attend Parliament to submit their qualifications. 

Mr. Ranwala further remarked that his party secured parliamentary power to address larger issues, adding that the controversy surrounding doctorate degrees is being fueled by individuals seeking political advantage and does not reflect the concerns of the public 

He also said that he has never claimed to hold a doctorate or used any academic qualifications for political purposes. 

Additionally, Mr. Ranwala stated that if his actions have caused any damage to the government’s reputation, he would take all necessary steps to rectify it.
