Breaking: AG Revokes Release Order for Suspects in Lasantha Wickrematunge Murder Case

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today (13) that the Attorney General has reversed the decision to release three suspects linked to the assassination of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge.

The case is scheduled to be heard on 30 May.

On 27 January, then-Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe notified the CID that Prem Ananda Udalagama, Don Thissasiri Sugathapala, and Prasanna Nanayakkara would no longer be prosecuted, allowing their release.

However, the Attorney General’s decision, conveyed in a letter to the CID and the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court, triggered widespread criticism over the past two weeks.
