Cabinet Paper Prepared to Form Committee Aimed at Abolishing PTA

A Cabinet paper to repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) will be submitted in the coming days, Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara announced in Parliament today(22).

The paper will also propose the introduction of a new Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), which will align with international standards.

Minister Nanayakkara revealed that a committee will be formed to oversee the abolition of the PTA and the introduction of the ATA.

“Hopefully, in the next parliamentary session, I will be able to confirm that the cabinet approval has been given for the abolishment of the PTA and to bring the ATA, which complies with international standards,” he stated.
