Govt Implements PUCSL Recommendation for 20% Electricity Tariff Cut

The government has acted on the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka’s (PUCSL) recommendation to reduce electricity tariffs by an average of 20%, effective from midnight on 17 January.

This initiative serves as the first step in a three-year plan to lower tariffs by 30% for domestic, hotel, and industrial sectors, the Energy Minister said.

The PUCSL said that the reduction would apply for the first six months of the year. The decision was made following a detailed evaluation process, including proposals from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), PUCSL counter-proposals, and public feedback, in compliance with the Sri Lanka Electricity Act.
