Man Sentenced to Death for 2015 Murder of Woman Found in Travel Bag

Nearly a decade after a woman’s body was discovered stuffed inside a travel bag at the Bastian Mawatha bus terminal, the Colombo High Court today sentenced her killer to death.

The 44-year-old suspect from Nallur, Jaffna, was arrested shortly after the 2015 murder, which took place at a lodge in Pettah. CCTV footage had captured him abandoning the bag, leading to his swift capture.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman from Vaddukoddai, was believed to have been in a relationship with the suspect for three years.
