Namal Rajapaksa indicted for misappropriation of Rs. 70 million

Colombo High Court has served indictments against SLPP Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa over the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 70 million provided by the Krrish Company for rugby development in Sri Lanka.

The indictments, filed by the Attorney General, were handed over before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne on Tuesday (18). Following this, the court granted bail to Rajapaksa with a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and two sureties of Rs. 10 million each. Judge Thilakaratne also instructed that Rajapaksa’s fingerprints be recorded.

The case, initially filed at the Fort Magistrate’s Court, was transferred to the High Court for further proceedings. The pre-trial hearing is scheduled for 27 March 2025.

Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Perera represented the Attorney General, while President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis led Rajapaksa’s defense team. Detectives from the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) have been ordered to appear at the next hearing.
