Police to Tackle Unauthorised Vehicle Modifications in Two-Week Pilot Programme

As part of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, the Sri Lanka Police have introduced two pilot projects aimed at improving road safety by addressing unauthorised vehicle modifications and traffic violations.

The first project focuses on identifying vehicles with illegal alterations, such as multi-coloured flashing lights, excessively loud horns, modified silencers, and other risky modifications that contribute to accidents.

Police will monitor these violations closely during the operation.

The second initiative targets offences committed by drivers of public transport buses.

Officers will be deployed to enforce traffic regulations and ensure that bus drivers adhere to the law.

The pilot programme commenced on 4 January and will continue until 19 January.

During this period, drivers found with unauthorised modifications will be warned and advised to remove such features from their vehicles.

The police emphasised that the initiative is primarily educational during the pilot phase, aiming to inform both drivers and the public about the dangers of illegal modifications and traffic violations.

However, following this trial period, the programme will be implemented permanently.
