Private Bus Strike Called Off After Talks with Police
The island-wide strike action that was to be launched by private bus associations against the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Police traffic operations, has been called off.
The decision came after successful discussions held today (8) between representatives of the bus associations and Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya at Police Headquarters.
During the discussions, private bus associations were granted a three-month grace period to adhere to the traffic regulations under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme
Private bus associations had initially objected to the traffic operations, citing fines and excessive pressure from police. However, following today’s discussions, they announced they would suspend the planned strike.
The ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative, launched by the government, focuses on improving road safety and minimizing traffic violations.
