Rape of female doctor : Suspect arrested in Galnewa

The suspect accused of sexually assaulting a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital was arrested today (12) in Galnewa, as confirmed by Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala during a parliamentary session. 

The incident occurred on Monday night (10) at the doctors’ quarters of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

According to reports, the 32-year-old doctor was attacked by an unidentified man who entered her government-provided dormitory between 6.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m., threatened her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her. 

Meanwhile, Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) launched an island-wide strike today(12) demanding the immediate arrest of the suspect.
