Schoolgirl Abducted in Gelioya

An 18-year-old schoolgirl was abducted in Gelioya on 11 January, with the shocking event captured on CCTV.

The footage shows the victim walking with another schoolgirl when a black van pulled up beside them. One of the individuals in the van forcibly grabbed the victim and pushed her inside the vehicle.

A passerby tried to intervene, but the van sped away, making it impossible to prevent the abduction.

The Daulagala Police have revealed that the abduction is linked to a family dispute. The girl’s parents had arranged her marriage to a cousin, but the engagement was recently called off. The suspect, the cousin, is believed to have abducted the victim in response.

The abandoned van was later discovered in Polonnaruwa, but both the victim and the suspect remain missing.
