UN Ready to Assist Sri Lanka in Uncovering Hidden Assets
The United Nations has expressed its willingness to assist Sri Lanka in uncovering hidden assets and combating corruption. This was stated by UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc Andrew France, during a meeting with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.
France emphasized the importance of Sri Lanka working closely with the UN Peacebuilding Commission in New York and assured full support, including financial assistance, to prevent corruption and fraud.
He also praised Sri Lanka’s humane treatment of the Rohingya refugees rescued off its maritime borders, commending the country’s approach.
Minister Herath highlighted the recent elections as a historic event, where Sri Lankans voted for a new government free from ethnic and regional divides. He also stated that the government is working to expedite the return of land in the Northern and Eastern provinces to its rightful owners.
During the discussion, France revealed that UN Secretary-General is expected to visit Sri Lanka by the end of the year.
